The purpose and scope of the rules. The extremes of responsibility for buyer and seller (Ex Works and Delivered Duty Paid).
How the selected rule is incorporated into the commercial agreement.

Unit 2: The logic of the rules
The significance of the two groups: the “water” rules and the rules for all transport modes. Who pays for the main carriage, buyer or seller? Where in the journey does the responsibility shift from seller to buyer? Selection of appropriate rules for various scenarios.

Unit 3:  The rules in practice
Letter of credit issues.  Problems with EXW and DDP.  Freight insurance. Destination Terminal Handling Charges.  Qualifications of Incoterms rules.

Unit 4: Self-assessment
Short seven-item quiz.
